The Club's outdoor bowlers turned out in numbers to play on 9 of our 12 rinks (70 Players in all - 8 full rinks and 1 rink of triples), a wonderful start to the season. The weather stayed dry for us, if a little chilly. No prizes were given for the maximum number of layers worn whilst still being able to bowl - perhaps that’s one for next year! The group photo seems to have almost everyone visible if you look really closely. The pre-match spider raised £40 for the Chairman's charity and Jamal was the winner - well done Jamal, I hope you've claimed your bottle of wine.
There were some close games and some not so close, that’s the luck of the draw - opponents and rinks were all drawn at random - but whatever the result, there was much laughter and enjoyment throughout the afternoon.
My thanks to : Mike Vaughan for once again being photographer on the day, Sharon Robertson for all her help before and on the day, the kitchen and bar staff for all their work, Kevin Robertson - especially for putting names to faces for me, everyone who helped Dick to get the rinks ready and to everyone who stepped in to play when a few had to drop out. Special mention and thanks to Gill Bunce who bowled the first half of the match as a player was late despite not bowling outside now for a couple of years and to Jim Bunce for also volunteering to play if needed.
