County Finals took place at Falcon IBC across the weekend of 12/13 April.
We had representation in 3 events this year:
Mens Singles - Edward Morris
Mixed Pairs - Sarah Decort & Phil Brandon
Mixed Triples - Debra Rose, Mark Rose & Mark Welton
Edward faced off against 5-time past winner, Steve Mitchinson (Tye Green). He promptly shot into an 8-0 lead which evaporated into an 8-11 deficit. However a measure of control was restored and Edward ran out a 21-17 winner to capture the title for a first time, becoming only the 3rd winner from Essex County after Paul Maynard (once) and Richard Hart (eleven times!!)
Sarah and Phil faced the tricky proposition of facing off against a home Falcon team in their final. The score remained very closely balanced throughout the whole match, being even at 18 ends, but they pulled through at the clutch moments to win the title. The first time for the Club since 2018/19 (Sue Kemp & Neil Jackson)
Debbie, Mark & Mark had a nip and tuck game the whole way against Ilford, looking at times ready to pull away but Ilford stuck with them the whole way. However they eventually prevailed 17-14! Interestingly, Mark Welton retained this title from the previous year, with a different team - well done to all.
