Bowls for Sale
As the Club have now taken delivery of a large number of new sets of bowls for Coaching, we are selling our existing bowls at very low prices.
We have all sorts of sizes, makes and models – please see the For Sale noticeboard for details and visit the Office if you’d like to purchase any of them.
This is particularly relevant to our many new bowlers, please have a look!
Online Club Handbook
The digital version of this year’s Club Handbook has now been uploaded to the Club website – it can be found in the Members’ Area (requires log-in) under ‘Indoor Section’.
Printouts are available from the Office if required.
Mark Royal Roadshow
Mark will be bringing the Potters Bowls Shop roadshow back to the Club on Thursday 21st October, between 11:30am – 7pm.
As always it’s a great chance to pick up anything you might need for the season, including bowls, clothing and all sorts of accessories.
League Score Input
A message from Lynne Daughtrey, League Secretary:
“Just a reminder if I may that when your team is home and playing a league game the score needs to be entered into the Bowlr system (as it did pre-covid) on the iPads on the wall by the water fountain.
You also need to enter the players who played and their positions please.
I have checked just 3 days’ worth of cards since the start of the season this Monday and quite a few results are not being entered.”
All members are invited to attend the Outdoor AGM of Essex County Bowling Club, to be held at the Club on Wednesday 13th October at 7:30pm.
We would suggest it is even more important than usual for your attendance due to the fact we have not had an AGM of any description for around 2 years now due to CoVID, please make every effort to attend.
We are relaxing some of the protocols introduced at the Club as a response to CoVID, namely:
Please note we will be reverting back to using the ‘old’ front entrance of the Club.
Track and Trace
We have removed the sheets used for signing in upon entering the Club, there is now no longer a requirement to do this.
As you may have already noticed at the Club, the screens in the Indoor arena have been removed and the session desk returned to its usual spot.
Sanitising gel is still available throughout the Club and we recommend members continue to use it.
We also suggest members continue to use facemasks whilst moving around the Club, there is no requirement to wear them whilst seated or playing.
Thanks for your cooperation with everything whilst we got through a difficult period for all of us!
We are fast approaching the opening of our Indoor season, with the start date being Monday 27th September and a full league programme commencing one week later on 4th October.
We are reverting back to the way we operate pre-CoVID, that is to say NO pre-booking of roll-ups. You can still use the Diary in the Members’ Area of the Club website to see availability, but to roll-up you just need to turn up! We would like to remind everyone the need to pay for roll-ups PRIOR to commencing play.
Club Competition entry forms are available now, both hard copies at the Club and on our website – please get your entries in promptly if you are keen to be involved. We have rolled over all entries from last year’s aborted season, please check the sheets produced by our Competition Secretaries if this affects you.
Our regular coaching sessions of 8am on Tuesdays and Sunday will commence on 5th October and run throughout the season.
Mark Royal Roadshow
Mark is next attending the Club on Thursday 21st October (between 11:30am and 7pm) – as always this represents a great chance to pick up anything you might need for the forthcoming season, from bowls, clothing, accessories and more.
The schedule for this year's competitions can be found on the Competitions page. This is subject to minor change(s) due to unavailability of some members for their semi-finals. Click on the following link - Essex County Bowling Club (essexcountybowlsclub.com)
An update regarding the 2021 / 2022 men's, ladies and mixed club competitions.
Due to Covid and a couple of other factors, it is not our intention to send out entry forms en masse for the forthcoming season. We still have all the entry forms and most of the fees from last year. We shall publish a list of all the entries previously received giving members an opportunity to either confirm they are happy with their entries going forward to the new season or if they wish to make any changes, withdraw any entries or make any additions. Any payments that were made by cheque, we shall ask for payment again as they would not have been banked. Any new members or those who completed no entry form last year will have an opportunity to complete a new entry form (to be circulated via email and on club notice board).
We shall have a closing date around the middle of October for all aspects regarding the setting up of this seasons club competitions.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused but it is not that straightforward to reorganise currently.

Please see various messages below….
Hello fellow members,
As you probably aware I will be your new Captain for this coming Winter Indoor Season so I thought you might like some background information about myself and the coming season.
I have only been a member of the club for 4 years, but in that time I have been lucky to represent the club for the last 3 years in the Coastal Cup, I have played 1 year in the Over 60's league and just recently organised and played in the Indoor Inter Club League.
For those of you wishing to put a name to a face then I am the one in the odd shoes!
This position of Club Captain is obviously new to me, however I will do my very best for you and the club. I will have a number of Vice Captains to help with this demanding role, Tony Jacks, John Dalby, Martin Bandelow, Janette and Derek Slatford, John Peoples and Roy Wallace. They will all be willing to assist you with any aspect of the club wherever possible.
During the course of this winter season there will be a number of friendly matches taking place. I would ask you to keep a close eye out on the Notice Board for all the details and to put your name down as soon as possible.
Please mark down the position you wish to play in and then when selected please TICK your acceptance to play. I will also be listing reverses, if you haven't ticked your name to play then a reserve will be selected in your place. I will do my utmost to ensure everyone has a game during the season.
Martin Bandelow will be running my Captain's Charity Day on Wednesday 6th April 2022 and talso Captain v President Day on the 23rd February 2022. Donated raffle prizes will be very welcome and all details will be posted on the Notice Board in due course.
Please help us to make this season a safe and most enjoyable season during these difficult times.
Thank you for your support.
I have received the sheets from County Lady Match Secretary Jenny Paternoster and I will be putting these sheets up on the board in the corridor on the board to the left of the Ladies changing rooms this afternoon.
If any of you wish to play in these friendly games please add your name to the sheet as soon as you can.
The games to be played in October I have to return to Jenny by 11th September – this Saturday – so not long…….
If you are not at the club this week to enter your names and you wish to be considered for playing please email or ring me and I will add your name for you.
I have just received the entry details for the Ladies indoor county competitions for this coming season. These are for winter 2021/2022. They are available to download from the club website or paper copies are available on the notice board in the corridoor
(These are on yellow paper)
If you want to enter please complete a form and return it to the office with the appropriate entry fee to the office no later than Wednesday 15th September 2021.
