Denny Cup report:
Essex County played a strong Colchester team on Saturday 4th November in the Denny Cup.
The game was level for the first ten or eleven ends overall, but Colchester had a surge in the third quarter leading by 11 shots after 12 ends.
The rink of John Andrews, Simon Kittle , Mark Welton and Neil Jackson then showed their class winning two ends with a five and a six to level the game overall. At the same time David McCathie's rink who were 6 17 behind at 16 ends hit a bit of form starting to convert their good build up play scoring back to back trebles. During this time my rink managed to lose seven consecutive ends surrendering a 20 shot to 9 lead, playing the last end 20 all. I managed to burn the first play of the 21st end and turn a four down at the end to a winning single shot. At the same time John Stewart's rink converted their 12 12 game to a winning 20 17 result. David McCathie also burnt the final end and managed to just lose one shot on the final end.
Rink scores, David Dar rink 21 20, David McCathie rink 14 20, John Stewart rink 20 17 and Neil Jackson rink 24 18, a combined winning total of 79 shots to 75.
Many thanks to all those who supported the team again today and a special well done to the two away rinks on their excellent performance.
Ipswich up next.
